Following weeks of suspense, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Spoiler alert - This piece reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all suspense.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the winnings.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a shocking outcome that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Social media immediately exploded with the news. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," commented one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated another, while someone else described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him keeping a straight face through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up why no one had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate a person so charming?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would be successful a second time!"
Thursday evening's installment was extended to over an hour on the network. There was a different start than usual, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped some moments from every remaining player's time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started the competition a bit of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and player than I believed."
At the same time, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast resembling a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - naturally - The Traitors Express.
This task saw them ripping up images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who was hit in the head multiple times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, it was time for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise beforehand, pledging to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," said a player, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to his promise. But, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," said an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Before long, they were at the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be betrayed last minute in that manner," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am a winner," the winner said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional surprising incidents may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
