Alleged Stalker Asked: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test over that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and remains open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One recorded message, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I have a existence here in Poland, I only wish to know," she added.
The tribunal was informed that via electronic messages, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a attempt to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, told the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg established a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in the county in last December.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated using messaging service to Mrs McCann to express the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the time preceding the appearance to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two accused, in November 2024, discussing trying to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their residence, Mrs Spragg dispatched a communication which said: "We are sitting near the McCanns' home with our lights out like private investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with someone else I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
